• Greetings all. First time WordPRess user here. I am attempting to get my Blog working and am having trouble with the RSS feed.

If you check the site: feed:https://www.grimeygames.com/blog/feed/

For some reason the site is putting the word “feed:” into the link. Is it supposed to be doing this? Click the link above and you will see an error, however if you remove the feed: command form the url then you will get the desired xml for the rss feed. Can anyone give me a hint as to what I need to do to get this working properly?

  • The feed: is absolutely normal. It’s the normal format for an RSS feed link. It’s giving you an error because you don’t have a feed reader installed.

If you want to remove it, however, you need to check the HTML and remove the feed: part from the <a href="feed: [template tag]>. I’m not sure which PHP file you need to change because I don’t know where the feed is located on your site.

Alternatively, you could use a service like https://www.feedburner.com/ , which converts your feed to something readable (even if you don’t have a feed reader).

Sorry, never used feeds before. Where woudl I tell WP what feedreader I am using? I didn’t see the option in the admin panel for such a thing?

Well, you could just remove it, if it’s really causing you a headache. I don’t know any feed-readers that won’t accept a normal URL without the feed: prefix.

A feed reader is client-side, so unless your users know how to use feeds, they probably won’t get anything readable (unless you use something like feed-burner, of course). If you use Firefox, you can add a feed as a Live Bookmark, by going: Bookmarks>Manage Bookmarks>File>New Live Bookmark.

so yeah, In summary: Edit your theme and remove “feed:”
