    Hi,

    I logged into my WordPress account for my website https://www.K9sOverCoffee.com this morning and saw that an update to the latest version, 4.4., was available. I updated it, and since then have seen nothing but a blank screen when logging into my backend.

    I don’t see anything – no dashboard, no plugins, nothing.

    I’m on a Mac OS X Version 10.9.5.

    Can you please help me fix this problem? I have no idea how to go about this.

    Thank you!

  • Hey Barbara,

    Welcome to the club! You’re not alone…
    Try to roll back to the older version manually:

    Hey Kookidooki,

    Thanks so much for the link to the video – I must not have done something right though. It’s still not working. Ugh.

    By the way, now I also can’t even log into my backend anymore. Yesterday, that was still possible, although once logged in, all I saw was a white, “empty” screen.

    I cannot access my Dashboard to do anything, either. After logging in, the browser tabs say “Dashboard” but the window is blank. Thus, I cannot even roll back to older version, unless there’s a download to it somewhere.

    @barbara

    I think it is a low memory issue. Enable Debug and check.

    How much memory you are allowing to PHP and how much to WP ?

    I’m running into strange issues with WP 4.4 after upgrading…debradiblasi, if you have Jetpack installed, try to deactivate it by renaming its folder through your hosting admin panel…it allowed me to enter my WP dashboard…

    Nope, we don’t have Jetpack. Is there anyway to revert to previous version? We’re running out of time.

    @debradiblasi

    ENABLE DEBUG

    DISABLE ALL Plugins

    Or restore your previous backup before the upgrade.

    @debradiblasi have you tried disabling all plugins?

    @barbara.a.rivers,

    – Instead of rolling back as suggested here, my suggestion is to try try MANUALLY updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old wp-admin and wp-includes folders and files on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.
    Backup: If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

    @debradiblasi,

    If the above info didn’t help you, then, as per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. That way you stand a good chance of getting full attention to your specific issue. Despite any similarity in symptoms, your issue is likely to be completely different because of possible differences in physical servers, accounts, hosts, plugins, theme, configurations, etc. Thus one problem, on one setup is not indicative of the functionality and reliability of an application as a whole.

    I am very glad to report that my issue was fixed last night. I had opened a support ticket with my hosting server, Bluehost.

    They said that my issue was connected with the WordPress core files, which they replaced. I am now able to log into my account again, and everything is back to being functional.

    I’m going to try to get help from my host. Thanks for the advice, though.
