Blank Screen on 2.2 — time to trash WP?

  • I would love to find some help before I have to trash the whole thing, start over and migrate content from Blogger (which has the advantage of working) or by cut & paste.

    I followed the Codex instructions (twice so far) to upgrade from 2.1.3 to 2.2. The result was a blank screen and no access to /upgrade.php /install.php or anything else except the read me (from the web host’s control panel).

    When the second upload failed I followed the Codex and a tutorial with pictures to copy my backed up database to MySQL. The database exists, the backups work but it left me in exactly the same place — no blog, blank screen at https://7colorlagoon.com/blog1.

    Any advice before I give up and start over with Blogger files and cut & paste? Another wasted 10 hours or so. WP now threatens to do this dastardly deed every few months!

  • Only you can make the cost/benefit decision re: wp vs. blogger, but you know, you might as well try figuring out what the problem is. Try putting this near the top of wp-config.php:

    error_reporting(E_ALL); ini_set('display_errors', 1);

    I too have the blank screen. All was working fine. I can log in to admin just fine but when I go tot presentation I get a series of error messages as follows: Warning: is_dir() [function.is-dir]: Stat failed for /home/kvedros/public_html/wp-content/themes/classic (errno=13 – Permission denied)
