Blank screens in update-core, themes, plugins (New Install)

  • Hi all,

    this is my first post in this website so please go easy on me ??

    I have installed WordPress latest version from scratch and completed the installation like a breeze. The website is working fine and also I can access to the admin panel. However I cannot access to these 3 pages in the dashboard:

    wp-admin/update-core.php
    wp-admin/themes.php
    wp-admin/plugins.php

    I think there is some problem which is beyond my knowledge.

  • Hi, @zephyrtr. A blank screen is typically an indication of an underlying PHP error, so you’ll want to check your server’s error logs to see if something’s being reported there which might give a clue as to the problem.

    Alternatively, you might try setting WP_DEBUG to true in your wp-config.php file, to see if that causes any particular errors to show up on those blank screens, and then let us know what those are so we can try to help you figure out how you might be able to resolve them.

    Hi girlieworks,

    thanks for the prompt reply. I set the WP_DEBUG to true, however blank screens continue. I have no clue how to check server logs, but I created a ticket to my hosting provider.

    By the way I was playing around and renamed:
    wp_content/plugins-> wp_content/plugins_tmp and
    wp_content/themes-> wp_content/themes_tmp

    Now all three pages started work, but of course now the main page went down. I deduce that these 3 pages require some special handling.
