Blank website and themes error message
-
Hello,
My website is blank, just a white page and on my dashboard homepage I get the error message “ERROR: The themes directory is either empty or doesn’t exist. Please check your installation.” In the file manager, I have three themes installed in the themes directory at public_html/wp-content/themes/ They are twenty thirteen, montezuma, and responsive. All three seem to have similar files in them, but only the twenty thirteen theme shows up under the wp-admin/themes control panel. It seems like there is a control or index file that is missing or empty, but I don’t know what that should be. I did, after several hours of trying to fix it, reinstall wordpress, and I think that worked, but it still has the same error message. When I installed montezuma and responsive, and tried to activate them or preview them, I get a white screen that just says “cheatin’ uh?”.
This is pretty frustrating. I have tried to understand what is going on by examining some of the other threads with this same error message, but they don’t appear to help me. At first I followed a tutorial video on installing wordpress, it went relatively smoothly. I had a functional, barebones webpage with the theme responsive installed. No problem. I then tried to edit the header and I added a picture to it. I did not resize it to the standard recommended size (which I think was 300×100 pixels), thinking I could later. Hit upload and that’s when it all fell apart. Maybe I just am in over my head, but I had heard how “easy” it is to use wordpress. I’m not finding that to be the case.
