Blank White Screen on Homepage

    Home page is white screen since one week ago. Even in editing during customization, home page does not appear. All other pages and posts appear. Error log says as of Feb 23 “Error while sending QUERY packet wp-db.php”.

    Recent changes: new blog post, Pinterest verification (adding file into file manager), uploading new widgets which I have now deleted.

    I just updated to latest WordPress version, and it did not fix the issue.

    After talking with 3 tech support, the issue is still not resolved.

    The third guy changed my website to another theme without my permission thus in resulting in losing all my plugins, including my backup plugin. Now when I try to install plugins, it says “Installation failed: could not create directory”.

    Thank you for contacting us and sorry to read that you’re experiencing a major issue with your website.

    What you’re having is infamous “White screen of death”. I’d suggest that you first try disabling ALL of your plugins and then see if the front end comes back. If you can’t do it from the backend due to any reason, you can as well rename /plugins/ folder to /plugins-broken/ or similar, using FTP access.

    If it does, then start enabling plugins one by one until the issue reappears. Then you’ll know what caused it.

    Thank you, @siniplyrathemes, for your quick reply and helpful response.

    Your second piece of advice worked renaming the plugin folder. For some reason, the 3rd tech guy renamed the plugins folder causing the plugin issue.

    The white screen is still there, however. When the plugins are deleted, it’s there. When they are installed but deactivated, it’s still there.

    Like I said, it’s just the homepage “www.thebackpackartist.com” but all other pages and posts appear, like “www.thebackpackartist.com/about” or “www.thebackpackartist.com/travel”.

    If you’d like a 4th tech guy help ?? I could look at the issue myself but since I’m not allowed to ask you for any details like user/pass of your Bluehost account here, could you please go to https://www.lyrathemes.com/support/ and open a ticket.
    Someone will pick it up from there.

    As a last resort, before opening a ticket, please try to empty/purge any caching plugin you might have installed and see if it makes any difference.

    @hoelscherkat – That would be the most effective way to resolve this. This really looks like a files/plugins issue that is specific to the home page. We’ll look into this for you.

    After opening a ticket with LyraThemes support, they were able to reinstall the theme on the server.
