• I have poetry I want to post on my blog but when I copy and paste my poem from One Note, the block editor (which I do not like) breaks every line into its own block. I have specific lines that are supposed to be together. I tried code editor and inserting <br> tags but that didn’t work.

I looked for a way to disable the block editor and go back to the old one, but did not succeed.

    Any suggestions?

Here’s an example of the line breaks I want to do:

    First line of text

    Second line
    Third line
    Fourth line

    Fifth line
    Sixth line
    Seventh line

    Eighth line

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi, @alymcf

You can try this plugin: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/classic-editor/

    Hope this helps,
    Kind regards!

    Or use the verse block.

Steven is there a way to change the width of the verse block? It seems to only accept lines of about 55 characters or so.

Probably via CSS. Please provide a link to a page on your site where we can see this. Thanks. Note: Your link will be public and we will not later remove it.

Steven I haven’t published it yet because I am not happy with the way it looks.

Here’s the Preview but I don’t know if you can see it:
    https://alymcf.wordpress.com/?p=2553&preview=true

Basically when a line is a little too long for the verse block, it bounces to the next line and begins a character or two to the left of the next line. It’s as if it has no idea how an indent is supposed to work.

    Like this:
This is the first line of text that is apparently too long even though it is
    not long at all
This is the second line of text

But ideally, the verse block would allow me to finish my sentence on one line, making the question of how the indent works a moot point.

It looks like my Reddle theme wants me to pay for a Premium plan before it will let me edit CSS. ??

To add or override CSS: use the “Additional CSS” option in the customizer. https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/appearance-customize-screen/

When you have a publicly visible page, let me know.

I’m noticing that if I start a new post, I can then select Classic Editor in the list of options. This allows me to copy and paste my verse in, and it looks good at first but as soon as I save and preview it, it gets rid of all the spaces in between lines. I can add them back with a return key, but then it gives me what looks like a double or triple space.

I also see that the width allowance here is not as wide as I would like it to be, but only one of my lines got bounced to the next line instead of several, which is an improvement over the verse editor.

I’m really surprised this is so difficult.

Ups! I don’t know how I’ve missed that you’re on wordpress.com My bad!

Due to the differences between the free hosted blogs offered at wordpress.com and the self-hosted version of WordPress supported here, you should probably ask WordPress.com Support instead.

That is a WordPress.com blog, which we really can’t help with here. To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and www.ads-software.com are two different entities: https://www.ads-software.com/support/article/wordpress-vs-wordpress-com/

WordPress.com has complete documentation and support contacts at https://support.wordpress.com/

    Kind regards!
