    you can enter xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (single)
    or xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/xx (“CIDR” format)
    or xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx-yyy.yyy.yyy.yyy (range)
    or xxx.xxx.* (wildcards).

    You have my apologies.
    The program has grown organically, so things get added. Rather than having a clear spec at the beginning and then carefully following it, the program is modified in little ways over the years and things are added, but are not especially well documented. There are about 4 years of patches, bug fixes, fitting in new features and rewriting whole sections, which unintentionally undoes some previous work.

    Many thanks for your rapid reply. Let’s hope this extended purge works! Eventually they’re bound to run out of numbers.
