Block the entire countries IP range

  • Hi, I have a lot of traffic coming in from India and I want to block all of it or redirect, I don’t care, because is eating a lot of hosting resources and I don’t need that traffic. (is legit but not needed for my monetization method)

    I’m not super technical but I understand the basics of WP, so is there some plugin or anything I can do to achieve this?

    I found plugin IQ block country but I’ve read that a lot of people had problems with it. Also a website that generates htaccess code that contains the entire IP range of a country to block, it starts and ends with:
    <Limit GET HEAD POST> and </Limit> (is quite long, not sure if it will hurt sites performance?).

    You should really try iQ Block Country for yourself and form your own opinion of it. It’s easy to install, and if you don’t like it easy to remove.

    A .htaccess will hurt your performance if there are many ip addresses or ranges in it. As there is no “just one” ip address for a whole country you will need to block a lot of ranges.

    Yeah, the IP range is huge and the file contains a hefty list of IPs.

    I could also just redirect specific countries with some plugin if there is some existing?

    There are more 5 star ratings than 1 star ratings ??

    Why not try the plugin see if you’re satisfied, and if you’re not satisfied either uninstall or ask for help. Most 1 star ratings are from 2012. The plugin did not have statistics then so people might think it did not work but yet it did. Or there are other reasons that it didn’t work.

    I’m waiting for response from my hosting to see what they recommend, and if they don’t have anything useful to say I’m going to give it a shot.

    Does your plugin slow the server performance or how does it work? Does it have the entire IP range of all countries and than blocks them when that country tries to open my website? I need something that doesn’t cause further performance issues because I’m getting around 15k visitors daily, and I want to get rid of at least 5-7k.

    The plugin is very lightweight. It check’s the ip address of the visitor against the Maxmind database and then it checks the country that ip address belongs to according to Maxmind if it is on the blacklist or not.

    Somehow I couldn’t find “iQ Block Country” plugin. I was available a few months ago. What happened to it…?
