I am posting this for the benefit of anyone who might encounter the same issue. In Wordfence I clicked the “Optimize the Wordfence Firewall” button and all of a sudden all of our Google Ads stopped working because they got disapproved for “Destination not working” because the URLs were returning a 403 Forbidden error to the Google Ads bots. I want to note that Search Console wasn’t getting 403s and I also tested with https://httpstatus.io/ and it was able to access the URLs as well, so this was specific to Google Ads. Once I switched the firewall setting from “Advanced WordPress Protection” back to “Basic WordPress Protection” the ads started working again. I’m not sure if this is something you want your team to look into or not, but in case anyone else has the same problem, I wanted to share my experience. Thanks!

Hi @joelnewcomer, thanks for the information!

I think that dropping Wordfence to basic protection isn’t a solution we’d expect in this scenario, and isn’t necessarily a recommended course of action for all customers experiencing this kind of issue. Ideally I’d like to help you be able to use both Wordfence and your Google ads together without compromising on site protection level.

I would like some more information about the final destination URLs for humans and if you’re using the tracking template in Google Ads, and what the tracking template destination URLs are.

It would also be helpful to understand the hosting/server environment you’re running by dropping us a diagnostics report to wftest @ wordfence . com. You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

Note: For the fastest response time, please make sure and add any information or questions directly to this topic and not the email address above unless asked.

    Thanks,

    Peter.

    Hi Peter,

I am also getting the same issue with my website, with Google disapproving the ads associated with the website as well.

Along with this, the site is now returning a 503 error when trying to log in. I have utilised the firewall country blocking setting to block overseas countries from accessing the site to reduce the amount of login attempts into the website, and left Australia ( the country we are residing in with access to the website).

Only this week this error has been showing up and this feature has been on the site for months already. When trying to regain access through the administrative section of the 503 error page with the admin email no instructions are sent – is there any resolution for this?

    Cheers

    Donna
