    Hello,
I have been having trouble with attackers showing an IP address as the hostname. I have yet to see a regular user showing a host this way. How can I block this? Using an asterisk like this *.*.*.* seems to work but is it a good way to do it. Is there a way to limit the block to numbers only.

In a related question, is it possible to block someone using null in the host name spot.

    Hi @justwander

It is normal to see an IP address as a hostname.

When you said, “How can I block this?”

What are you trying to block and why?

When you said, “Using an asterisk like this *.*.*.* seems to work”

You must remove that rule as it will block all legitimate visitors that have any IP address as a hostname.

We also recommend that you do not manually block a lot of IP addresses manually:

Please provide a screenshot sharing service URL to show the null hostname that you see.
