Blog and Shop with separate domain

Hello everyone,

I’d really appreciate any help on the following problem:

I’ve got two domains, and I would like to set up one for a blog, and the other one for a shop based on the WP eCommerce Plugin, while still being able to benefit from having one central WP installation.

What would be the best way to do that?

One approach I’ve been considering is assigning domain1.com to the root folder, installing WP there and using it for the blog. Then I could assign domain2.com to root/shop/, set up a WP network and create a second blog which I’d use only for WP eCommerce.

Is that possible? Or is there a simpler, cleaner solution?
