UPDATE: I got sidebars working with Chrome an Firefox; Safari doesn’t render the sidebars. My problem appears to have been that I was doing all of my testing with Safari (the default macOS browser)

I would really like this to work with Safari

I am trying to get my main ‘post list’ page configured with left and right sidebars. Thus far I’ve had no success. No matter what I do, no sidebars appear.

I’ve have the OceanWP panel installed and enabled. I have gone to Appearance=> Customize=> Blog=> Blog entries, Archive & Entries Layout, and selected ‘Both-Sidebars’ with ‘Sidebar-Content-Sidebar’ style. Under ‘Widgets’ I have ‘Default Sidebar’, ‘Left Sidebar’, and ‘Footer 1-4’.

I’ve tried a number of different values for the ‘Both Sidebars: Content Width (%)’ and ‘Both Sidebars: Sidebars Width (%)’ properties with no apparent effect.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated: at this point I’d be happy to see any kind of sidebar appear, but my goal is to have both a left and a right sidebar on the blog entries (list) page.

  • Hello @kelly64,

    Thank you for reaching out,

I used an online service to check your website on all versions of Safari and saw no issue, kindly check this screenshot: https://postimg.cc/XB58PQp5.

Note 1: The footer sidebars seem to be empty, so please add some widgets to the footer sidebar and recheck the footer section. You can add widgets by navigating to WP Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets.

Would you please provide us with some screenshots, a short video, or any documentation of the issue you faced, step by step?
You can upload your files to one of the following online services:
    https://drive.google.com
    https://dropbox.com
Or any other service you know.

Note 2: If you have any cache plugin or server cache(CDN / Browser Cache and Cookies and …), you need to clear its cache contents or disable them to see your changes. Also, remember to click on the regenerate all assets file and data in Elementor > Tools(if you have Elementor).

    I hope it helps.
    Best Regards

I actually ‘solved’ my problem. The issue is that OceanWP is reactive and was ‘turning off’ the sidebars based on slightly different browser settings. E.g.: my Safari browser view was ‘zoomed in’ slightly compared to my Chrome browser, increasing the size of page elements and triggering the sidebars to be disabled.

Disabling elements like sidebars to keep the main content readable is perfectly normal and reasonable behaviour for a reactive UI. But I was ignorant of the fact that it would be triggered in quite the way it was and quite so ‘easily’. Several of my site users complained of the same thing: apparently a lot of them are using laptops with less screen real estate.

Thank you very much for testing this out from your end. I’m now looking into how to tune the behaviour but, as I have purchased a license now, I’m going through the ticketing process.

    Hello @kelly64,
