Blog for daughter – what do you think?

  • My daughter ist getting her first laptop for christmas. She already has some internet experience and loves computer stuff and story-telling so I thought, this would be a good time to introduce her to her own website (closely monitored by myself).

    As it is a starter blog I chose a very simple theme where she cannot do much harm (I think).

    So far, there is no content, yet I have a few questions:

    a) what do you think of the idea in general?
    b) what do you think I should talk to her about?
    c) do you think the theme is ok?

  • The theme is great for a children blog. I think you should let her write anything she wants, she will develop.

    I like the header … very girly and cute. So I presume she is still a young one. Let her write, tell her to be mindful not to expose personal information. And tell her, that anybody can read what she writes.

    The rest will come on its own.

    The theme is nice for a children blog.

    A. Great idea. It’s never too early to start! My 2 year old can surf the web on a laptop for hours and use my iPhone to play games and browse youtube. If they have an interest in technology, let them play with anything!

    B. Since it’s not a money making blog, she can blog about anything. Just make sure she understands that anything she writes is going to be public domain so she shouldn’t treat it like a diary.

    C. The theme is fine but if you could show her a handful of choices and let her make the final decision, she’d feel much more at home. Maybe she doesn’t want an anime girl and would prefer a fluffy cat. Who knows!

    That’s a really cool idea. I think it’s great to give your daughter an outlet where she can express herself and practice her writing. Perhaps to encourage her, ask a few of your family members and friends to comment on some of her posts — if I get a kick out of a comment on my blog, I’m sure your daughter is bound to!
