The base or root location of your domain is usually named html or public_html. The folder named WordPress is your main blog installation. If the WP folder is one level down from the root, then you do 2 things. You need a second index.php in the root folder that calls for ('.wordpress/wp-blog-header.php')
(just copy the index.php in the main WordPress folder and add that wordpress/ in)
Then you go the the main page of your admin panel and enter the blog location as mysite.com/wordpress
The next entry is where you want the blog to appear, and this one can be just mysite.com

ive put index.php in the public.html folder so now i have https://www.domainname.com/blog1 (My WordPress address) and i have https://www.domainname.com/blog1 (My blog address) which do i have to rename to get the blog onto https://www.domainname.com??

(it is public_html – underscore, not dot!)

You should change the blog address. Follow exactly the guide:
Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory and you can skip step #6.

I bet the blog is there (all your cntent is stored in the database, so unless you made something that is NOT said in the tutorial, all the data must be there).

Above you said that FIRST you moved the index.php and AFTER that you tried to change the URI values in Options.
    Now that is double wrong…
    1. You do not move it but copy it = meaning have it in both places!
    2. You did not follow the order of the steps outlined in the guide I gave you above.

    chris

instead of doing all this …
    just goto MyPHPAdmin
    options table
    and change URL manually

it will start ur bog .. without any hassles …

PS : i know u don’t need this help after 8 month, but someone else must b finding such info on support
