I’m using version 2.7.5 of Virtue. On the blog index – only excerpts will display, while I prefer the full posts.

Under WordPress>Reader options (/wp-admin/options-reading.php) I have “Full text” selected.

Under the Virtue theme options (/wp-admin/themes.php?page=ktoptions) > Page/Post: I have Blog Post Summary Default set to text (because I don’t want images shown).

For “Blog Archive” there’s an explicit option to show full posts, but I don’t see one for the index.

Am I missing something? All modifications I’ve made are only within the WordPress or Virtue options. I have not made any code level modifications to the theme.

    Any insight would be appreciated!

    Tim

  • Hello Tim,

Can you explain what you mean by “blog index?”

If you’re using the blog template on that page, you should have an option under “Blog List Options” to set “Display Post Content as:” Full.

    Are you seeing that option?

Hi Kevin, thanks for your response. So I have WordPress installed in the root. I have a page called Home for the homepage and I have a page called blog that I have set as the blog index through the standard WordPress settings.

I’m using the free version of the Virtue theme.

When I go to the blog “page” I don’t see anything saying “Blog List Options”. And on this page there’s no dropdown to choose a page template.

Just for the heck of it I created a blank page and chose “blog” for the page template, but the end result is still the same – just a summary and not the full blog posts.

In the Virtue settings they have an option for:
“Blog Archive – Choose to show full post or post excerpt.”

But I see nothing for the blog index (or blog frontpage)

    Hey,

    1.

Under WordPress>Reader options (/wp-admin/options-reading.php) I have “Full text” selected.

That ^ setting is only refering to your rss feed.

    2. In your settings > reading. Make sure you have not selected a page as the “posts” page. This would override the template can use for a blog page.

    3. In your blog page edit the page and make sure you have the “blog” page template selected. Save the page and you will see the blog list options.

That’s it! Thank you Kadence Themes, of course the solution was simple. I’m doing a site for a non-profit and this theme has been just about perfect for their needs (not launched yet). I’m hoping I can convince them to upgrade to the premium version in a few months. I think the added features would be well worth it.

    Thanks again for your help!

I’m using Virtue. I just updated the Kadence plug-in and suddenly my front page is only displaying the latest blog EXCERPT instead of FULL. I have the correct setting at Appearance > Theme Options > Home Layout > Latest Post Display (Full). How can I make it display the full post?

    Hey Jen,

In the future, be sure that you start a new thread with any questions you may have. Thanks!

If you want to show only blog posts on your home page, you can go to Settings> Reading set your front page to be your latest posts page.

    Does this work for you?

    -Kevin

Thanks Kevin for your advice. But that didn’t make any difference. It’s still displaying an excerpt instead of the full post.

You can set this in the same place. Settings> Reading, “For each article in a feed, show.”

    -Kevin

Yes, it already says “full text”.

Can you please post a link so that I can view your current blog configuration?

It’s protected now but you can get in using mary, havealook.
It’s only protected because we’re doing some final tweaks – no major security thing. I would have PMed you but can’t see how in this forum. Thanks.

Sorry for the delay. Looks like you haven’t set your home page to be your latest posts in Settings> Reading.

Right now the blog on your home page is being output by Theme Options> Home Layout, “Latest Blog Posts.”

Then the posts should display in full.

    -Kevin

Yes, I’ve been playing around with that setting. It doesn’t make any difference. I have it set to display latest posts now and still it’s only the excerpt. Any other ideas much appreciated.

Keven, are you still available to help? I just looked, for the first time since my posting above, and the post has disappeared completely. No excerpt, no full text. I can give you admin access if you’re willing as I need to get this working. Jen

    Jen,

Can you please start a new topic? Since this thread has been going for so long and your site has changed quite a bit in that time, I think we should begin a new topic so things are clearer.

    Thanks!,
    Kevin
