  • I kinda in the same position as the topic starter.

I want to build a portfolio website with a blog. I too am new to wordpress and blogging. Should I be focussing on editing the appearance of the default look to match my site(basically build my site in wp) or should I focus on building my site and incorporating wp in there. While there are many tutorials on www.ads-software.com I can’t seem to find any that deal with more ambitious editing.

Anyways any help here is greatly appreciated.

What I would do is to move the blog to the root, redesign the blog so that it looks like your current site, and create a static front page that looks pretty much like you have as your home page just now.

There’s a lot of info how to do pretty much anything in WordPress in the codex. See:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Getting_Started_with_WordPress#Special_Installations

If all you want to do is create a link from your regular site to your blog, then do so. Just add a link to your regular site that goes to your blog – that’s all there is to it.

Now, if you’re wanting to use WordPress as a CMS, and have the whole *site* in WP with a blog section, you can do as the other posters suggested. But a link is a link is a link – if that’s all you want, just plug in a link on your regular site. Done.

And blade – it depends on what you want to do. If the site is already built, then you can just add a link to your blog and you’re done. But if you want to use WordPress to handle everything, then yeah, you need to read the codex and figure out your structure before you dive in.

Thnx guys. I’m digging in the codex as we speak. Already got the whole blog up and running(under my custom design). Now I want to see how viable it is for me to get wp to handle everything. I think that I can pull this off if I put some effort in:-)
