Ok I have been doing some stuff with my site today and installing other wordpress blogs on to the same domain (but different dbs) and last time I checked it my site was displaying fine, admin was ok etc. and so I left to do some studying.

I just went back and my blog main page has disappeared. I can access the admin folder, the entries are all there, but when I try and view the plugins and presentation section wp can’t see any of the folders.

I’m thinking it’s something to do with file permissions but have no idea why it would have changed so suddenly (and I’ve tried different permissions to see if that worked)

All ideas gratefully recieved I am really panicking here!

[edit: I’m concerned it may have something to do with an import i did of some old entries in mt format. when I originally imported them it caused my theme to switch to default]

Ok I guess no one can tell me. I’m guessing I should do a clean install and then upload the database I backed up this morning then? Before the MT import?

I have nearly 1000 entries and pages so I am really nervous about losing this data..

Did you try selecting a different theme, since you can access admin?

I can’t select any themes ?? none of them or my plugins appear on the appropriate screens..

Hmm I don’t know quite what I did differently but I managed to get my blog to load everything in the wp-content folder now. keep your fingers crossed it plays nicely..

Okay, well, post back if you’re still having problems…. and just as an “in general”, your folders should be permitted 755 and your files 644.

    ‘blockquote’
folders should be permitted 755 and your files 644
    ‘/blockquote’

Is this correct for *all* folders and files in WP installation?

Well, yeah…. unless you’re using the “backup plugin” which requires wp-content be wide-open at 777 (which personally I say is a REALLY BAD IDEA, I don’t care what THEY say….)
