Thanks James – I’ve done all of that and all the scanners tell me it’s free of bad code. I’ve also manually searched all the files I can through the WP interface and as far as I can through CPanel’s File Manager. I found a proxy93.php file in one of the uploads folders but deleting that made no difference.

If the guide itself didn’t help, I’d have to suggest hiring a specialist to research and clean it up, as researching and cleaning will be a very involved process.

You have to make sure that you’ve cleaned the vector along with symptoms, or they’ll just re-do the hack.

I had same problem right now and just fixed it. Check functions.php file of your current theme and there will be a long malicious code in base64, remove that code. In my case, the code completely overwrote my existing functions.php but fortunately I had the backup.
