• I have a problem on my blog which is running the latest WordPress version 3.5 that when ever I add or edit an old post, not the whole text will be saved but only some few words or paragraphs will save. After doing the edits more than a time I noticed that there is special characters that trigger WordPress not save this character and any preceding text.

    I have to change these characters to something else until wordpress accept it, as an example if I put {don’t} it will not accept it until I change it to {don’t}.

    I have installed BulletProof Security plugin which created an .htacess core file with some settings to secure my blog and I believe there is something in this file that is preventing these characters. I am not technically professional in coding so could anyone please let me know what exactly I should look for in the .htaccess file.

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • This might actually be due to your server’s mod_security configuration. Have you asked your hosts about it?

    @esmi,
    thanks for your quick response. No I didn’t check with them, but before doing so, is this Mod_security configuration server wide or site wide. Because I am having three sites with the same host, out of which two hosted on the same server, the 3 blogs almost having the same settings and plugins, except this site which I am using the BulletProof plugin to harden my .htaccess file, this is what made me think that this should be the problem! am I right?

    s this Mod_security configuration server wide or site wide

    It is commonly server-wide but that might vary from hosts to host.

    am I right?

    It would certainly be worth trying to deactivate/delete the plugin. It might be causing your problem.

    @esmi,

    Thanks for your response, I just confirmed that .haccess file on my website is having

    if Mod_Security on
    SecFilterScanEngine off
    SecFilterScanPOST off

    I have deactivate the plugin and still the same problem is there, what do you suggest I should try now.

    Have you tried asking your hosts about this? Not all hosts allow their users to configure mod_security via an .htaccess file.

    @esmi,
    Thanks for your quick response, I have just sent them email asking them for help. As I have seen some where else here about similar problems that have been reported and needed the interaction of the host, since sometimes it could be host firewall or security settings that is causing this. I will let you know about their response.

    @esmi,

    The web host has replied as below

    ((Your account has now been updated and mod_security has been disabled.))

    He asked to delete my web cache which I did but I still have the same thing. I am using Google Chrome. The odd thing that I have tried to use another browser to check if it could be from my browser but I couldn’t even logon to my panel using IE with the same username and Password!

    What plugins do you have running still?

    Thread Starter icciev

    (@icciev)

    @esmi
    I am using many other plugins but I am using the very same plugins with two other blogs but don’t have the post issue or logging into IE issue!

    It could be a combination of plugins + hosting. Can you try:
    – switching to the Twenty Twelve theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    @esmi,

    I think there is something serious on this blog, as before 4 days I sent a request to change my Cpanel password for 2 blogs, password should update automatically within 24 hours, although it has been changed for my other blog, it didn’t change for this blog.

    Have you asked your hosts about this? It does seem strange. May I ask why you were making all of these password changes?

    (@icciev)

    @esmi

    Yes, When my host tried to escape from this issue and told me they turned Sec mod off and there is nothing from there side, I did asked them for this and I think now they are getting serious about it. I request the password change through my web host management tool and it will automatically change Cpanel and FTP Password.

    But why did you feel it was necessary to change you cPanel passwords? Has 1 or more of your sites been hacked recently?

    Thread Starter icciev

    (@icciev)

    @esmi,

    The same website that we are talking about, that have the issue with posting has been hacked. My host is the one whom did the restore for me so this is why I though it should be perfect and if there is any issue it should be from somewhere else, because as soon as my website has been restored I installed the same security plugins on all my blogs but this blog is the only one that get this issue.
