• Hello everyone,

So, I’ve set up my homepage to show the latest posts from my blog. The problem is that the posts aren’t showing under the main blog page, but they do show up in the homepage.

When I change the settings to “static page” for the homepage and blog page and choose “blog” page, my homepage shows a bunch of links for pages that aren’t included in my primary navigation menu, but under the main blog page, the posts do show up.

I don’t know what to do, and I’m not tech savvy for these things. Please, explain as I were a five-year-old.

    Thanks,

    Kat

  • Hi, @jimenezkat.

So, I’ve set up my homepage to show the latest posts from my blog. The problem is that the posts aren’t showing under the main blog page, but they do show up in the homepage.

If you have “front page displays” set to “Your latest posts” under Settings → Reading, then those posts would normally be displayed only on your home page, not on a second, separate “blog page”.

In other words, the home page would be the only “blog page” under the default setup.

But if you have “front page displays” set to “A static page”, and then you chose one page to be the Front page and then another page to be the Posts page, then the list of recent posts would be displayed only on the page which is set as the Posts page.

So, it’s essentially an “either/or” thing, unless your theme is doing something special to make the list of recent posts appear on two different pages at the same time.

    Thanks, girliworks.

After your reply, I searched for a way to get the blog page to point to the homepage, and found this: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/blog-posts-on-home-page-and-separate-blog-page?replies=9

The last reply has instructions for a workaround to get both pages to show latest posts. You download a plugin, point the blog page to the homepage via the homepage’s URL, and viola! Worked beautifully.

Thank you for the tip, jimenezkat. This was exactly what I needed. So nice to get help from this forum. All the best. Morten

I did this work around differently than the above discussion. I can get around WP, but by no means an expert so I’m only explaining what worked for me.

I had my Front page as my blog. Anyone going to my site (www.danmularski.com) would land on my blog with previous posts, however, clicking on “Blog” on my main menu was not listing the posts. It was as mentioned in above comments an “either or” situation. If I switched to having the blog page normal, people landed on my home page which was not what I wanted.

I took the one suggestion and downloaded the plugin “Page Links To” (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/page-links-to/).

Now at the bottom of all my pages is an option to have a normal WP URL or a custom URL. Choose custom.

If you have your blog as your “Front page”, go to the bottom of your Blog page in edit mode, type in https://www.mydomain.com or whatever URL gets you to your front page (which in my case are my blog posts).

Now people typing in my public URL https://www.danmularski.com go right to my blog posts. They also can click on “Blog” on my main menu bar to go back to my blog posts if they have been to other areas of my website. Without the “Page Links To” plugin, they’ll get my blog page w/o any posts.

This worked for me without having to recategorize or add a “dummy” category to all of my posts.
