• I noticed that when I uploaded the default theme for my blog, that there are already links to other blogs. My question is if it’s bad form, manners etc to change or remove those original links? Also, I thought having links from poorly ranked sites (mine) will hinder your ranking. Doesn’t the fact that I’m not even indexed, have a negative effect on these other blogs?

I just don’t want to twist anyone over the changes. Not that anyone would really notice changes on my site yet anyway… lol

  • Incoming links can’t hurt your rank, but they might not help either if the linking site is either un-indexed or has a zero pr.

Jonlandrum – That’s my case… at least from my point of view. I’m not even indexed and I have these links automatically on my site to others. I’m sure they’re not linked to me.

This may be standard for WordPress, but will I be casuing some kind of stink if and when I want to remove them?

MrMarco – those links serve a few purposes:
    – they show you where links appear
    – how they appear
    – you can see how to delete them
    – what they look like when in the manage screen.

They aren’t just there for the linkage – and feel very free to delete them. No-one would mind at all ??

Blogroll has nothing to do with your rank or indexing.
It is an option, you can change it to your wish.
    Generally, one puts here friends.
The “default” are wp-developers, kind of “placeholders” ??

Podz and Kassad – that makes more sense to me.
    Thanks for the help ??

Podz, how do you delete them?

Podz, how do you delete them?

Go into your WordPress admin, click the Links tab, start deleting.

johnoz, go to your admin section, to the Links tab. You’ll see a list of all the links in the blogroll. To the far right of each line is a link to “Delete”. Click it for each one you don’t want, and approve the deletion. No mass deletes though without messing about in the database, you just have to do them one at a time.

Hmmm! Maybe I’m on a different wave here. I was thinking (and asking) how I can delete the incoming links — the ones that show-up on the dashboard. If I’m making a fool of myself then please be kind (grin)

    Ah ha! Light thickens….

You can (after BACKING UP THE FILE, please!) delete all that crap out of the wp-admin/index.php file….

If you want an already “scissored” version, please state which version of wp you are using, and I’ll upload the file for you to grab from one of my webspaces and post the link.

Thanks for the help/offer. I’m okay to fiddle around now I know where the stuff is coming from.

Okay, holler if you need help! Have fun….
