Blog roll feed on main domain, blog on subdomain

Alright Im working on a website. The main domain “example.com” and the blog will be on “example.com/blog”. As well as having the blog on the /blog I would like to have a small blog roll / freed of the main blog on the main domain homepage. Is there a way to do this with out having to install wordpress on the main domain?
