We use the subscription feature in Jetpack to allow interested visitors to subscribe to the blog and receive new blog posts via email. For some reason, if a person clicks/taps on the title of the blog post in the subscription email, the page that loads is not a secure version of the page. For example, if you had received the latest blog post (“All the Rest”) in an email, and you clicked/tapped on the title of the post, you would end up at https://scs-matters.com/YellowBrickRoad/ rather than https://scs-matters.com/YellowBrickRoad/ (note the lack of the “s” in the beginning of the URL, meaning you are not viewing the secure version of the site). Why is this happening, and what can be done to fix it?

    Hi there

I believe this is because although your domain has a valid SSL certificate, it is still possible to access your site via HTTP. Your visitors and search engines can use either HTTP or HTTPS to access your site.

This is an issue for search engines, since it often causes confusion and duplicate content, but it is also an issue for your site’s communication with WordPress.com, as our system does not know whether it should connect to your site via one or the other address.

To solve this issue, I would recommend that you make sure your site’s URL is set to HTTPS (you can do so under Settings > General in your dashboard), and then ask your host for help redirecting all traffic from HTTP to HTTPS.

If your host is unable to help with that, you can follow the instructions here to do so:
    https://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-add-ssl-and-https-in-wordpress/

Once that’s done, try to reconnect your site to WordPress.com once again; that should solve your issue.

Do you have a link to directions on how to reconnect a site to WordPress.com? A quick Google search for directions is making me question whether I can do this unsupervised. ??

    Hi @rebeccainmi

Would you be able to try the following for me?

From the wp-admin dashboard of your site, please go to Jetpack > Dashboard > Connections > Manage site connection from your left-hand menu.

Click the Disconnect button. If it’s already disconnected, you can skip to the next step.

Deactivate your Jetpack plugin by heading to Plugins > Installed Plugins and finding Jetpack. After a few moments, activate it.

Back in Jetpack > Dashboard > Connections > Manage site connection, Click the Set up Jetpack button and continue through the approval process.

Please let me know the results of this troubleshooting and we can go from there.
