• When I first started using WordPress there was a built in Geo/GPS function for entering longitude/latitude.

Now that blogdigger is offering a local search function, is there going to be a return to that function for creating the necessary meta data?

local.blogdigger.com is the new local search by city/state or zip code and it is based upon finding that meta data.

To me, it just seems like a matter of time and then Google/Yahoo will be doing the same sort of searches.

I realize that determining the correct meta tags is now easy by visiting geourl.org – but, I thought it might be nice to re-enable the core features to do this for users on setup.

Just a thought/request for future core WordPress features.

    Thanks.

I doubt it. The Geo features were pulled out of the core and moved to a plugin implementation in part because so few people made use of it. But if the top search engines do start offering similar services (and there’s an associated demand from WP users), the devs may reconsider that decision.

    Thanks Kafkaesqui.

I see that kind of search having great benefits. However, the big obstacle is the adoption of the meta tag geo info by sites/blogs.

Just another line on a big wishlist. :o) Thanks.
