• OK, i need help please. I want a blog, I want to put links to my two business sites on the blog. I am not being successful at all installing this program to my web site on Yahoo. It throws it off every single time.
If I publish my own blog, just out there in the web world, will anyone be able to find it? I have an expensive web designer, and really dont want her involved. I just want to be able to link to my two businesses, talk about what we do or sell there, and have some information for customers or future customers.
What can I do to accomplish this?
I am just not really really a techie, so you need to let me know in common language!

  • WordPress should do what you want. An Introduction_to_Blogging and WordPress_Semantics explain many of the concepts and terminology of WordPress.

Your web designer may not like the fact there are hundreds of web-site personalities, called Themes, to choose from.

WordPress Lessons has a long list of information including Search_Engine_Optimization_for_Wordpress.

    Hope this gets you started.

The thing is, I want control over this myself. I dont want my web designer being paid for this, I want it to be my own creation. Therefore, I need to install something somehow where I can put in my links, without paying to redesign anything.

Sorry I wasn’t clear. You don’t need a web designer because all the Theme designers have done the work for you!

If you get a change look through some of those articles and if you have more questions please return here to ask. Welcome!

Hi Emmab…. generally, I advise people who are very new to blogging to simply spend a day or two getting comfortable with the way blogging functions in WordPress. Make some posts, learn to edit them, delete them; figure out what functionality you look for that doesn’t seem to be there; think about the way you want posts to look on the main page, and the way you want links, etc. to look in the sidebar – just the normal “get friendly with a new program” sort of stuff.

Then once you don’t have to think about HOW to blog, think about the look of the site. Go here to look at wonderful themes: https://themes.wordpress.net/ and maybe download some to play with. Revisit the things that you wanted that weren’t there, and look here for plugins to help: Plugins.

Pick a theme, upload it, change to it through the Presentation screen. Add a plugin or so. See what the difference is…. and feel free to ask if something doesn’t work the way you think it should!

Vkaryl: That’s what I did, because I downloaded it several times through Yahoos offer, but it wouldnt let me keep my homepage as my homepage, and it kept messing up Yahoo.
So, I guess what I want to do is install it and run it separately or something? I just dont know how to do it so it is connected to my web site, yet not the home page.
Someone tried to tell me, but since I dont know anything about directory and sub directory, I didnt know what I was doing with it………?

Emmab, I remember the other thread. The problem is I don’t use Yahoo and haven’t any idea how to get around that with them. And apparently their techies are about as bright as a box of rocks, so that’s no good either.

Of course if you’re already paying Yahoo, you don’t want to move your stuff now. So that’s problematic all around. I do know someone who’s installed a blog on Yahoo, and I think in a subfolder; let me ask and see if there’s something esoteric that everyone’s missed with this so far, okay?

Might be later tonight or tomorrow, though, so don’t think I’ve abandoned you, please!

    Emmab,
    Is this site:
    https://www.fibertechcarpetcare.net/
    hosted on yahoo?
If not, email me (samboll at yahoo dot com) because you can probably put it in a subdirectory of that site easily.
I’ve done about 60 installs now for various folks and could have you up and running in about 30 minutes of getting the needed info.
We could make a trade instead of cash – say a link to my site for a month or something similar.
It’s really not as intimidating as it seems and WordPress is a great little prog that is very flexible.
