I am new to wordpress and want to create an online catalogue of products. I can see that wordpress has 3 different plans (free, premium, business). Each costing (free, $99, $299). So if I register my domain and host my website on bluehost and install wordpress there, do I still have to register for these plans when I connect my bluehost domain to wordpress? Meaning then I will be paying for both registering and hosting on bluehost and then the plans on wordpress?

Also, would you recommend buying my domain on wordpress directly or bluehost? As much details about these questions would be greatly appreciated as I have never used wordpress before and my budget is short and so I can’t go wrong.

WordPress is open source and, best of all, FREE!!
Where did you get this information about WordPress costing?

each one of them has their perks. If i choose premium, i can have my custom site address and no ads while choosing the free plan says there will be ads on my website. They ask you which plan to choose when you first go on to start creating a website. Also, any idea on if i should buy the domain and host on bluehost and connect to wordpress or just make the site entirely through wordpress. I have no idea about this and would really appreciate some recommendations.

You’re referring to https://wordpress.com/ which is different.

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and www.ads-software.com are two different entities: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com

If you host a blog anywhere but WordPress.com (like Bluehost for example), you have a www.ads-software.com blog, and the www.ads-software.com software is free (there are no paid plans).

I did go through the post. So for creating this website for an online catalogue of products, I should use wordpress.com, right?

I’ve coded websites manually before through html/css/javascript. I’ve never tried wordpress and so my questions might sound a little dumb but some help would be really appreciated on how i should get started!

You have two options if you want to sell things:

    1. https://wordpress.com/ and the business package ($299/year).

    2. https://www.ads-software.com/ (free) with a hosting provider ($ varies), and an eCommerce plugin like https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/woocommerce/ (free) or https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-e-commerce/ (free).

I don’t want to sell things. I have a store and I just want to show an online catalogue of my products. I do want my own domain as well (example.com and not example.wordpress.com). So what would you refer I start on?

I mean I have a store in my country that sells products. I want its own website which shows an online catalogue of products. There will be no online shopping involved. Just a catalogue showing all the products I have.

In that case then, you have 2 different options. ??

    1. https://wordpress.com/ with at least a custom domain ($18/year).

    2. https://www.ads-software.com/ (free) with a hosting provider ($ varies) and a domain ($ varies, but sometimes included with hosting).

Take a look at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/New_To_WordPress_-_Where_to_Start and if that seems a bit much to start out with, you might want to start at https://wordpress.com/ instead, as you can easily switch later.

Hi. I’m buying a custom domain on WordPress.com for $18/year and then they offer three plans (free, premium, business). I want to choose the free plan but that says I can’t have a custom site domain for that. Does that mean my site can’t have its own name (I.e. Example.com). Because it offers these three plans even after I choose my own custom domain. So what does it mean when it says in the free plan that it does not offer custom site domain?

You can still buy a domain under the free plan.

To do that, start with a free plan and set up your blog. Once you’re done, follow this guide: https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/

This is my first attempt at launching a site. My goal is to create a simple single page site that allows students to submit their name and date in order for me to monitor attendance at a variety of events. I was told that BlueHost is the best option. But it would be great if I could avoid paying fees by using WordPress. However, I am worried that WordPress might not be sufficient for retrieving data from the site and storing that data in a local database on my machine. I am hoping someone might be able to give me some direction.

    Thanks,
    Jason
