Blur ‘tiny-lazy’ image and fade into larger image

Is there a way to make the ‘tiny-lazy’ image more blurred at present it’s quite pixelated.

Also can the ‘tiny-lazy’ image fade into the larger image, currently it just jumps from one to the other.

I’ve noticed on sites like Medium the tiny image is more blurred and it fades in nicely.
