The images are smaller than the space you’re displaying them in.

For example, the first image: https://adirondackgirlatheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/vintage-eggs-butter-sign-300×297.jpg

As you can guess by the file name, it’s 300×297, but you have set it to display in a 655×648 space. So, the image is stretched and blurred.

Best advice I can offer on this is to never set the image to display larger than it actually is.

I never had to worry about anything like that in Blogger; changing the size never affected the photo quality.

I think I understand what you’re saying and I’m going to go see if it fixes things.

Thanks so much for your help James.

I just checked that photo and I had re-sized it in WordPress from its original 2870×2837 to 1000×989. So I don’t understand how you found it at 300×297.

I just went and added the original, large-sized photo to the post and both photos look the same–blurry.

When I look at my transferred, Blogger posts, the photos are excellent–sharp and clear, like this one, for example: https://adirondackgirlatheart.com/2015/07/this-weeks-vintage-finds-86.html

(Note: the formatting is screwy on this post, and every other one. Another problem I’m having with WordPress…)

I hope this makes sense and that you can help me.

    Thanks again–

Here’s whats in the HTML for that first post, specifically the first blurry photo:

    <a href="https://adirondackgirlatheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/vintage-eggs-butter-sign-e1438191794709.jpg"><img class=" wp-image-1200 aligncenter" src="https://adirondackgirlatheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/vintage-eggs-butter-sign-300x297.jpg" alt="vintage eggs & butter sign" width="504" height="501"></a>

The image being sourced is the 300×297 one, https://adirondackgirlatheart.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/vintage-eggs-butter-sign-300×297.jpg hence the problem originally stated.

It looks like, when asked which size of image to insert by WordPress, you’re going with the default Medium.

Instead, choose Large or Full Size.

Thank you so much, James! I had no idea that I had to set the photo size to S, M, or L. Changing the setting to Full Size made all the difference.

Another question: To fit it in my post, should I then resize it in the Media box or in the Edit box?

I appreciate you taking the time to help me out–you are very patient, and a good teacher ??

No, don’t re-size the source image, just let WordPress do its thing when you choose Large or Full Size (or Medium or Thumbnail).

If you re-size the images yourself by editing them now, you’ll be back to the same problem if you ever switch themes to one with a larger content area. It’s much better to leave the original as-is and let WordPress handle the re-sizing. ??

Thank you James. I’m a little slow with all this.

If I leave the photos full-size, when I import them to my blog edit box, they run off the screen and need to be resized to fit. Is that okay?

    (@macmanx)

Yes, just choose to insert the Medium or Large sizes. ??

You can also customize those sizes further at Settings -> Media in your blog’s Dashboard.

    See https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Inserting_Images_into_Posts_and_Pages#Image_Size for details.

    Hi James,

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me. I find this topic very confusing, though you’ve helped me greatly.

I just went into Settings -> Media and customized the settings for Large sizes to reflect the width of my blog (800×1024), and my photos look fantastic.

You are an absolute life saver, James–thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Hope you have a great week-end,
    Diana
