As a first step, to get a better understanding, could you share a link to your site as well as your site’s System Status?

You can find it via WooCommerce > Status. Select “Get system report” and then “Copy for support”. Once you’ve done that, paste it here in your response.

Temporarily publishing the site and letting the users on this forum have a look at the code output to troubleshoot the issue may be a good idea. You also have an option under WP Dashboard > Settings > Reading to disable search engine indexing:

I’ve kept working on this problem, and I think I may have found something that resolves it.

Some of the category/subcategory pictures were 900×725 and others were 800×600. It seems that the 800×600 ones were the ones that weren’t rendering properly. I’ve replaced them and the blurriness seems to be gone.

Based on the inspector, these pictures were being rendered on the page at far lower resolutions than either set of values given above. Why would one work better than another? Since I don’t yet understand what’s going on here and want to be confident that I have the knowledge to solve any future issues, I’m going to leave this thread unresolved for now.
