• I’m building my own WordPress Block Theme and have the following issue.

I’m trying to enrol the Google Font “PT Serif”. It works like a charm with Chrome and Safari, however, just for the regular 400 font-weight.

The bold 700 font-weight is reflected in Safari, but not in Chrome.

Expected behaviour: H1/H2 should show the 700 bold font-weight.

Experienced behaviour: H1/H2 correctly bolded at 700 font-weight in Safari, but not in Chrome.

I’ve attached the link to the live site.

Chrome Version: Version 108.0.5359.124 (Official Build) (arm64) Safari Version: Version 16.1 (18614.2.9.1.12)

I don’t believe its an issue with the plugin itself, as it has also not worked for me when manually adding PT Serif through the theme.json before. However, it’s obviously something that needs to be addressed.

    Could you kindly help?

Hey there, this forum is for help with the Create Block Theme plugin, but as you’ve already said, this sounds like either a browser rendering bug, an issue with that specific font/weight, or possibly a theme or plugin issue.

Things I would suggest trying, in order to narrow down the issue:

    • Does this issue happen with a different font, or only PT Serif?
    • Is the issue present with all your plugins temporarily deactivated? You can use the Health Check plugin’s troubleshooting mode for this, which will not change your live site – https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/ If the problem goes away, reactivate your plugins one by one (while still in troubleshooting mode) to find the culprit.
    • Is the issue present with a default theme like Twenty Twenty-Three? Again, you can use the Health Check plugin for this.

Let me know how it goes.
