I in General Settings and adjusting “Site Address (URL)”

    this worked, no problems.

Then I was about to test the one above that called “WordPress Address (URL)”

to see if that would do what i was looking for,

and immediately I was booted off the wordpress, and logged out

I came back to log in and see what happened and I was locked out

none of the user or passwords work anymore

    Help?

    Thanks

  • Maybe you entered the wrong wordpress address. Go to phpMyAdmin -> database name -> wp_options -> change url back on line 2 and 37.

    thanks for suggestions

phe.le – i can’t even get back into wordpress to make changes

i went to FTP and dont see how to back up wordpress files out of FTP

prior to making any text changes mentioned in https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Changing_The_Site_URL

would try it if i could back up files

To backup files with FTP just copy them over to your hard drive using an FTP client. For FTP login details, you’ll have to check with your host.

However, all your posts and other content are all in the database. Backing up the files won’t save any of that.

Do what php.le says. You don’t login to your wordpress site to make changes. Login to your host’s control panel and see if they have phpmyadmin, which will allow you to manage your database.

    Thankyou so much

all is well on the website now, your advice was correct

For anyone else who has this problem, the text can be edited within FTP
directly on the code page, then saved, without editing in Notepad as the WP page states, then the URL is locked in its correct setting, and the site is again functional for wp-admin.

    Tks again
