    That is a good question. My theory is as follow, if the file is not downloaded physically then the plugin should not increase the counter.

    However I have not tested the above theory.

    It will only increment the download counter when the file download is served.

    You can enable the following option in the settings of this plugin which maybe helpful for you:

    Log Unique IP
