• Things did not go smooth from the start. All I can say is thank god I backed up the database.
Ok… ran the Automatic Upgrade plugin I’d just heard about. Things seemed ok, but then it told me that I needed to upgrade my database. I told it to go ahead and it gave me a number of errors… relating to my account not having enough privledges to modify the database. I called my host and they created a new id that had full dba authority. I modified my wp-config.php file and uploaded this to the server. Tried to re-run the db upgrade, but the system had timed out.
Turns out she’d nuked my database… and I just had the hello world welcome post :-\
Re-started the Automatic Upgrade. Backed up everything again (I’d moved the original backups.. and made copies.. and emailed them to myself.. .just a little paranoid, i guess)
Anyway…. everything proceeded as expected… upgraded successfully… Viewed the site and only hello world was there.
Restored the database from my backup. Viola. All my posts showed up. Viewed the home page of the blog… and everything seemed ok.
However.. .when I click on any of the posts.. to read the post at its own page… I get the following error in FireFox: “The page isn’t redirecting properly”
Tried hitting this in IE… and it just sits there forever… never wanting to timeout… but never displaying my contents.
I have disabled/re-enabled the wpcache plugin.
I have the SEO Titles plugin. This makes my url’s look like https://www.mysite.com/blog/very-descriptive-title/ instead of https://www.mysite.com/blog?p=15.
Anyway… Hope you have some ideas as I’m stumped at the moment.

UPDATE: Created a new post and it behaves exactly the same… shows up on the blog home page… but fails to redirect when I click on the link. Also.. .page 2 of the blog is inaccessible. So.. looks like only the home page of the blog is currently accessible. HELP!
    Thanks!

  • Have you tried visiting Options -> Permalinks and resaving them?

I had not.. .but have done so…
Unfortunately, this did not fix things.
Still seeing the same behavior. Only the blog homepage is visible ??
By the way… I am using the SEO title plugin… I mention this because the Permalink page gave me the option to have more descriptive directory structure.

It would be good to take a moment and disable all permalinks and change to the default theme.

    Do things work now?

If yes, start enabling plugins and/or change back to your theme. But do it all step by step, testing in between each.

    Ok… making progress. Thanks!!!!!!!
With permalinks disabled… I can view the individual posts ie… blog/p=23
When I re-enable permalinks… and try to hit blog/descriptive-url/ it breaks again?
Back to the default theme… didn’t seem to make any difference (except for the look)… same behavior
I even tried setting permalinks back to the default structure… or other structures… to get these re-published. No dice…

First off, a silly seeming question — is your host Yahoo! by chance?

If not, when you visit Options -> Permalinks, do you see any messages at the bottom of the screen about what to add to your .htacces?

    If yes, do that ??

If no, make sure you actually have an .htaccess in your blog’s root directory.

    Yup… Yahoo!
    No mention of .htaccess
I wish i had access to .htaccess for a number of other reasons….

    Ah. Well. Hmm.

I saw a post last evening from another Yahoo! hosted fellow. It seems there’s a plugin you need to run for pretty Permalinks at Yahoo(?).

It seemed that the plugin wasn’t working with 2.3…

    Hmmm… is right.
As I recall, I didn’t get the Yahoo! provided version of Word Press. ie… I didn’t click create a blog. I downloaded it from this site… and ftp’d it up to my server. So… my Automatic Upgrade plugin upgraded a generic version. It would likely have been much easier… and might have eliminated the “you don’t have enough database priveleges” message that caused my initial issues.
Anyway… thought this might be helpful info?
I might still be hosed by the Yahoo provided plugin on a Yahoo hosted system though?

I suggest using the default permalinks until the bugs resolved. I did file a bug with the engineers at yahoo this morning. or go back to your previous version

THANKS HandySolo. This helped my problem tonight!
