Botched Update and restore with Updraft left my site in limbo
-
I wonder if anyone can be of help with my situation?
Here’s where I am at:
I hadn’t done a WP update since 2014, yesterday I rushed and updated to Version 4.9.4. The site (visually) broke (likely because I didn’t update plugins or themes alongside).
I panicked and then tried to restore to previous back-up I’d done with UpdraftPlus before the update (I still have these back-up files safe), but due to register365 host server time-out the restore was stopped before finishing and was site is stuck in limbo, half restored, but still a mess.
Wordpress prompted me to update database so I did without understanding why.
“Database Update Required – WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version. The database update process may take a little while, so please be patient.”
Now all wordpress ‘pages’ are gone (but can be found as ‘posts’) and the sites navigation, menus, images and css are all in a mess or gone (nothing in my media library).
I’ve messed around a bit with trying to follow these instructions : https://updraftplus.com/faqs/i-want-to-restore-but-have-either-cannot-or-have-failed-to-do-so-from-the-wp-admin-console/ but I haven’t installed a new wordpress because I’ve never done that before without using the ‘one-click-install’ that register365 provide.
Any ideas of what I can do? I’m a graphic designer, but have little experience with development.
