• I tried to add a plugin called Feedburner Feed Replacement v2.2. When I activated it, my whole site went blank. I couldn’t see anything but white. I had to FTP in and delete the folder with the plugin. That brought the site back. I then deactivated the plugin. Anyway, ever since the largest part of my sidebar has gone missing. I have gone over the main template and sidebar an awful lot and cannot figure it out as I am not a programmer. Can anyone help? Thank you in advance for your replies.

  • Hello Don,

Maybe you can contact the programmer of the plugin? He/she might know…

    Hello Don,
Your sidebar shows links and pages, like any out-of-the box sidebar does. What should have been there? Do you use widgets?

Hello and thank you for the replies. My sidebar is missing quite alot actually. A calendar, a clustrmap, a counter, my blogroll, etc. Not sure what’s going on. I could post the code of sidebar.php but I read the “before you post” message and it said not to do that. I can email it to someone if they want to look at it.

Also, thanks for the suggestion on contacting the plugin developer. I can try that, but since it was by Technorati I’m not very hopeful.

    1. Make that entry page more human-friendly: shorten it because it’s a sin to have such a long-long page. Nobody is going to look at the code/source code…
    2. You can always paste the code to https://wordpress.pastebin.ca and post back the URI.
    3. You probably copy/pasted a faulty code into your sidebar and that cuts everything after that: the rest of the sidebar items and your footer.

OK, here is the url for the source code for my sidebar.php file. I have also made my page shorter by only showing a maximum of 6 posts per page. Thank you for the tip. I have repented of my sin. ??

the_recent_posts is a plugin function — do you HAVE that plugin/widget installed?

And assuming you are using this widget:

    https://www.semiologic.com/software/widgets/recent-posts/

    is that theme widget-ready?

I notice that you are NOT using the most current version of wp which has built in support for widgets.

if my post above isnt applicable:

if I were you, I would start picking off (removing) things like this:

    <?php the_recent_posts(); ?>

and seeing if that fixes it.

Removing the next bit .. so on and so on..

    this is called troubleshooting.

If you ask me .. you have a function in your sidebar that is being called by a plugin or widget that is not activated.

Thanks whooami. I should have updated this request since I finally fixed it. And as you might have guessed, I used the very method you described. Pretty much. What I did was download the clean version of my themes sidebar.php. I then started adding one thing at a time until I found the issue. It’s working great now. Yes, troubleshooting is a wonderful thing. Why didn’t I think of it earlier? Doh!
