box only for certain categories

Definitely, although it is a little more advanced. I need to make the Manual conditional tag in the “Show this box” section a bit more clear but you can use the following conditional functions.

In your case, you can use in_category('category-1', 'other-category') to only show the box when a post is in one of the given category. Between the parentheses goes a comma-separated list of category ID’s or slugs.
