• I don’t know if it’s just me or what..
but have you noticed that 2.5.1. seems to have a lot of posts on here about the login issues?

    anyway..

i somehow managed to ‘erase’ my wp-config file the other day.
I recreated it and was able to see the site again but couldn’t login though the wp-login screen..

so then i just got pissed off and erased the entire public_html directory (after backing it up to another folder)…

so I’m goign to re-install 2.5 and hope that I can point it back to the datebase without too many issues..

otherwise, I’ll be spending my sunday re-writing all of that content.

There has to be an easier way.

Yeah, and for most of those, the solution is that the person didn’t follow the installation/upgrade steps TO THE LETTER. And one of the cardinal rules of upgrading is DON’T ERASE THE WP-CONFIG.PHP file. Too late now, huh? Install/upgrade in haste, repent at leisure. ??

If you just want to salvage your posts and comments, and have access to the database thru PHPMyAdmin, just export the posts and comments *tables* (making sure “Drop Tables” is ticked before you export). Then do a fresh install and once that’s up and running, pull the posts and comments tables back into the new database.

An easier way than getting pissed off and trashing a folder?

An easier way than stuffing around doing pointless stuff, instead of following the simple instructions?

    No… there’s no easier way.

who said that this was an upgrade? And why are 3 of my other domains (also 2.5.1) where the wp-config.php file WASN’T trashed doing the same thing??

This was a brand new install on a fresh domain.

I only did one upgrade and I did follow it to a “T”… it worked for about 2 weeks before crashing.

I own over 50 of them.. and like to play around.

    > and like to play around

Call ripleys, this one’s a mystery for the ages.

You’ll never discover something new if you follow in the path of others.

real trailblazers don’t ask others to bail them out.

Why don’t you go discover how to fix your blog?

is what led me to, stupidly I suppose, assume you were upgrading an existing blog, else where would all that content have come from? So if you are just installing anew, there’s no data to lose, is there? If you have data, you must have had an existing blog. Did you save that database and export the post and comment tables as I suggested?

I saved it.. I wrote all the content in one night while high on crazy imported drugs.

though I really liked playing 2.5.1. while I had it installed.. it just struck me as odd that it happened to three sites all at once… unless it’s an issue with my host.

ah well, nothing that can’t be fixed.. or replaced.

Yep, if the three sites at issue are hosted at the same place, i’d start with the host. I love my web host to death, but they are in denial when it comes to site problems. I put in a trouble ticket and they come back with “looks fine to us, let us know if you need anything else.” And whatever I complained about has been “magically fixed,” but still..
