Brand New Redesign

Anyone have any suggestions or comments?

Hey Justin,
underneath the about/portfolio/contact/facebook menu is some text (‘Justin is all hopped up on DayQuil’) that is partially hidden behind the white post background.

What browser are you using so I can address that? I’ve checked using Firefox 3 and Safari 3 on Mac, and IE 6 on Windows and can’t reproduce that look.

He’s seeing it on Firefox 2.0.0.16 as am I.

I highlighted the text to read it and it currently says:
“Justin wants this cold to be gone. (Updated 1 hour, 20 minutes ago)”

Odd that’s it’s not outputing correctly in Firefox 2 but it is in Firefox 3. I’ll look into that.

It’s eye-catching, I’ll give you that.

But personally, that background hurts my eyes, and as a casual visitor to the site I wouldn’t be compelled to read the actual entries.

the background would drive me nuts pretty quickly and I agree that I might not be a regular visitor to a site with a background like this. Also, can you make comments to your posts or it is just like a journal entry with no comments?

The background is still too much even though it’s toned down with the opacity on the post “bubbles?”

As for the comments, I have allowed them in the past, but I kind of let the blog die over the last year or so and am trying to bring it back. I’ll add the comments back in due time.

to me it is a little to much, but that is just me. I guess my question to you is that I am not sure what it accomplishes as far as your site. I assume you want people to read your words, thoughts, posts, etc. I am all for creativity and use it on my sites, but also understand that there has to be a balance in design that will be attractive to viewers and keep them wanting to come back time and time again…

Hum, alright. Would increasing the opacity on the white bubbles and toning down the opacity on the colored bars improve readability?

honestly .. probably not. im not sure why you are insistent on having stripes (bright, multicolored stripes) behind text. The folly in that ought to be obvious ?? but hey, its your site — if you can read it, so be it ??

you have to consider what blogs are for. The stripes are neat, Ill grant you that, but they dont work where you want to read. It’s kinda like flash, used in some places it works nicely, others, not so much.

i do have to agree with whooami here. if you insist on the stripes atleast take some of the trasparency out so the text can be read. but it is your blog really so do what you want.

I don’t really mind the background, I can see it fine. I think it looks great to be honest.

I’ve muted the background to about a 45% opacity over white. Does this improve readability?

I’m not sure if I’m sold on the sidebar implementation. I like the tag cloud but not necessarily the colors. Any suggestions?
