• Just a little backstory… I’m familiar with WP.com but new to WP.org. I’ve recently decided to start a new blog and decided to go self-hosted. I’m using Dreamhost. I did the one-click install through their site and have been trying to get a jump start on the looks of the site through Anonymouse as suggested by someone in the help at Dreamhost. When I get the WP login page through Anonymouse I log in and it has me on a loop… The page just refreshes. If I try to reset the password I get the white screen. I’ve read loads of forum posts about this and I just don’t understand the lingo. I’m willing to start at the very beginning [including deleting & reinstalling if necessary]. I would just really like to get to the familiar territory of the dashboard.

    Thanks in advance!

Also, if it makes any difference, my site is/will be willfulwandering.com

Anonymouse? o.O Just log in directly, there is no need for a proxy or anything.

(I don’t see anything in a support ticket that says you should use Anonymouse, which is highly confusing…)

It was through the support chats. This is the time stamp of when it started: Aug 1, 2013 2:01:23 PM EST. I was chatting with David J. He gave me this link:

    https://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/https://willfulwandering.com/wp-admin/install.php

Yesterday I went through the process of editing the DNS to point to Dreamhost [the domain is through Namecheap] when it didn’t appear to be finished today I contacted support chat again to see if I had done something wrong, which conversation boiled down to my desire to get started on the appearance of the site, which led to the anonymouse suggestion.

Does this also happen when you log in at https://willfulwandering.com/wp-login.php?

My suggestion: just reinstall WordPress manually. Create a fresh MySQL database via the DreamHost panel. Configure the user account for your website such that SSH is enabled.

Then connect to your site via SSH and run the following:

    cd yourdomainname.com
    wget https://www.ads-software.com/latest.tar.gz
    tar -zxvf latest.tar.gz
    mv wordpress/* ~/yourdominname.com/

Then go to https://yourdomainname.com and run the install process using the MySQL database and user your created earlier.

I also have brand new site which worked yesterday but now nothing. Can’t get to site admin, support for Bluehost or wordpress. Looks like, from these posts, that the problem may not be just with my site. If it is a crash of server or?? maybe waiting a time will resolve this? Should I start all over? Sorry, these questions probably appear simplistic but they are from a frestrated newbie. Thank you for any direction or advice

Bluehost was recently purchased, and the new owner is reported to be having problems affecting many sites.

NOW I understand ?? So … Yeah. DNS sucks and takes up to 72 hours to update everywhere. https://www.whatsmydns.net/ is my friend to check on the status.

We have a subdomain you can use, via dreamhosters.com, which will let you make yourdomain.dreamhosters.com and you can build your site off that. https://wiki.dreamhost.com/WordPress#DreamHosters

It’s easier (ish) than Anonymouse ??

(Debi – Bluehost is having a bad day with an outages. Give it a day, and if it keeps breaking, make a new topic all for yourself ?? )
