I started a new site this morning, after editing the domain from one that pointed to another site, to being a domain pointing to its own home. I did edit nameservers.

Did the install. When I first logged into the admin panel, an announcement along the top warned me that my site was in maintenance mode until I was done setting it up. To *click here* when I had my site set up to leave maintenance mode.

So I made a bunch of edits. I clicked but did not get my site to come up. A generic maintenance page came up. https://www.shoutrochester.org/

Is this *maintenance mode* a new function of WordPress or something my hosting site added in? If it’s my hosting site, I’ll go talk to them but I wanted to ask here, first.

    What I have done:
Even though I am in my admin panel and have made all these changes, I made sure there actually were files on the server.

I have searched these forums as well as my hosting site’s help docs.

On WordPress support forums, the only threads I found that might have been applicable were aimed at specific plugins.

I have deactivated all plug-ins that came preloaded – my hosting site automatically adds two.

I’ve googled the problem and mostly was rerouted back to the support forums (of course) or to older help sites that people have created over the years. Nothing I could use.

    Thanks for your help!

And I’ve now started a support ticket with my hosting site as well!

OK, I can close this now. It seems to have been something with the htcaccess defaulting to home.html instead of the needed index.php.

Weird. But whatever. My site is visible now.
