    Dear

I use the plugin for my website, I have this rail of breadcrumbs:

Anna Galanou Photography > Portfolio > Wedding > Sakis & Vashia
    ie
home > portfolio page > category > category item

Firs of all I need to change “Anna Galanou Photography” to “Home” and have it translated as I use two languages on the website, is it possible?. Second when I click on the “wedding” category the redirection is to “Blog Archives” of the wedding category, can I change it so shows the weeding category page and not the “Blog Archives” page of the wedding category?

    Thank you in advance,
    Dorota

How are you establishing this relationship between the post and the “wedding” page? WordPress does not do this natively. Typically, you should not be manually creating archive pages for taxonomy terms. Instead, you should be using a template customized for the taxonomy archive. If you have established the parent – child relationship between the post and the category’s page (rather than category’s archive), you can set the “hierarchy” setting in Breadcrumb NavXT for the post type to “Post Parent”.

Sory I forgot to say that “wedding” is one of the categories of the portfolio page, there are other categories like “christening, portrait etc.”. I have portfolio pages linked to these caegories, there are no subcategories.

I had the same issue with the ‘portfolio’ where the redirection was to ‘portfolio post type archives’ luckily there is a “Portfolio Archive Display” checkbox that you can uncheck and the issue is solved, but there is no the same possibility for the categories.

I hope I was clear enough this time.

    thank you for your time.

Unfortunately, you didn’t answer my question regarding how you are establishing the relationship between the post and the wedding page. Or rather, how are you mapping the wedding category term to the wedding page? This isn’t a native behavior in WordPress, so it likely will not be supported within Breadcrumb NavXT (is within the realm of an extension plugin).

I think that I do understand what you mean, it seems that I am not as familiar to wordpress. Where should I look for that John?

What I’m trying to figure out is how you are establishing the child-parent relationship between the post and the “wedding” page. I assume this would occur during post creation. However, from your prior responses, I’m guessing nothing is being done in this regard (I could be wrong).

If my guess is correct, then there isn’t a way for Breadcrumb NavXT, or any other plugin, to determine the relationship between the post and the “wedding” page without some help. In the end, this is due to a difference between how WordPress naturally/natively organizes content and the organization you wish to achieve. Something needs to be used to fill this gap. One such plugin is Post Parents. The only downside is instead of mapping automatically based on taxonomy term (e.g. category), you have to specify the parent page for each post.

Thank you very much for your support John. It seems that the ‘Post Parents’ plugin does not work for me, maybe this is a theme’s particularity. I decided to style with css the category archive page and hide the “blog archives” title… it looks fine now.

The ‘Breadcrumb NavXT’ is a best plugin for breadcrumbs for WordPress that I found after a long research on the web.

    thank you again!

Post Parents should work regardless of theme. How was Post Parents not working (not the expected result, PHP warning/error, something else, etc)? Were you setting up the parent page relationship for each of the posts? Also, were you changing the post hierarchy setting in Breadcrumb NavXT’s settings page?

The ‘Post Parents’ plugin works fine, it allows me to choose the parent page of every portfolio page, but what I need is to set up a category as a parent of the portfolio page, as ‘Wedding’ is a category of the portfolio page.

In the ‘BreadcrumsNavXT’ plugin in ‘Portfolio Categories’ of the ‘Taxonomies’ I have this root:

    Portfolio Categories Template
    <span typeof=”v:Breadcrumb”>%htitle%</span>

    and

    Portfolio Categories Template (Unlinked)
    <span typeof=”v:Breadcrumb”><span property=”v:title”>%htitle%</span></span>

Should I change something in the code to have the root to ‘Categories pages’ and not to the ‘Portfolio Categories archives’?

    Thank you very much.

Here is the screenshot of the root of the Portfolio Categories Template in the ‘BreadcrumbsNavXT’ plugin, as I see above it is generated differently.

Oopse, I guess I forgot to answer your first question:

Firs of all I need to change “Anna Galanou Photography” to “Home” and have it translated as I use two languages on the website, is it possible?

For this, you want to change all instances of %htitle% and %title% to Home in the “Home Template” and “Home Template (unlinked)” settings (located under the General tab of the Breadcrumb NavXT settings page). Translating this depends on what translation plugin you are using. Since this setting is a Breadcrumb NavXT specific setting, not all multilingual plugins will work out of the box. WPML will work, if you have the WPML String Translation plugin (included with the premium version of WPML) and the Breadcrumb NavXT WPML Extensions plugin.

The ‘Post Parents’ plugin works fine, it allows me to choose the parent page of every portfolio page, but what I need is to set up a category as a parent of the portfolio page, as ‘Wedding’ is a category of the portfolio page.

In the OP of the topic, you said that you wanted the portfolio items to be children of the “Wedding” category, but you wanted to link to the “Wedding” page rather than the “Blog Archives” for the Wedding category. If that is the case, then for each portfolio item that is a member of the “Wedding” category, you would use Page Parents to set the “Wedding” page as the parent. I don’t know if there is some sort of misunderstanding here, or if I’m missing something.

The first issue regarding the home instance is done, this was easy ??

The second is more complicated, I did not express myself well at the first comment, by the ‘weeding category page’ I meant the portfolio page that filters only one category, for example ‘Wedding’ category. In about two weeks the website will be live so I will come back to you with the url of it. I think that it can not be done as I would like it to be, because of the filtering portfolio.

I am quite satisfied with the result as it is now ??

Thank you so much for all your support and patience!

    Hi John,

Here is the url to the portfolio of the website,
    https://annagalanou.com/portfolio/

As I said before I am realy fine with the result that breadcrumbs are generating.

    Best Regards,
    Dorothy
