    Hi!
Nothing urgent, but maybe this will be useful to you.

Out of nowhere, I suddenly got notices from Google Analytics that I had invalid breadcrumb settings on several sites. I’m thinking, duh, I don’t use breadcrumbs on my sites. ??

I looked at my HTML code, and I did see some references to breadcrumbs, though. After looking around, I found that SEO Framework has a setting for crumbs that’s apparently turned on by default. I unchecked that, and I think that should fix it.

Maybe that’s not a good setting to have on by default? I’ll let you be the judge.

    Hope this helps!
    Dave

    Hi Dave!

Over 13 months ago, Google hinted us that they were going to require this check. We addressed that immediately.

Now, we also got this email for one website of our client, which we barely ever touch. In that, Google never crawls that website. So, the data in Google’s index was from August 2018, using an older WooCommerce version, which had this exact issue.

The SEO Framework was also affected. So, we worked together on resolving this issue for both TSF as WooCommerce. For TSF, we addressed this issue back in September 2018.

If you check your pages with the error in Google Search Console, they should state “Crawled successfully on “(before)Sep xx, 2018”. Yes, that’s a year ago! Google ignorantly reported this issue based on old data.

So, The SEO Framework’s breadcrumbs should not cause these issues, and you can safely leave that option enabled. It helps Google understand the structure of your website.

Try re-enabling it and ask Google to recrawl all affected pages (“Test Live URL”). Then, ask them to verify if the issue is resolved–this can take a while.

    Sybre,
Thanks for your comprehensive answer. That makes sense. Maybe some Googlers had a break from their onslaught of ad work and looked for something to break. ??

I’ll have a look in there.

Keep up the good work! Dave
