    Hi there,

Really enjoying using TSF, but I have one problem I just can’t crack.

All of my products have two product categories only (1 = Type, 2 = Brand) and the ‘primary’ category is set to Brand on every product via the checkbox on the product page.

Some products show Brand in the breadcrumb correctly, but most products ignore what is set via the checkbox and show Type instead. Also on these products, if I try to pull through the Brand image (set in the category) for example, that also doesn’t work, so it isn’t just a breadcrumb-specific issue. It seems something in the backend is conflicting in relation to the primary category.

This inconsistency seems to be related to date: breadcrumbs and category image both work correctly for products assigned to a Brand that was created before Type. Therefore if I delete “Type” and recreate it, there’s no issue because it’s newer than all the “Brands” categories, but I can’t keep repeating this every time I want to add new brands/products.

Is there a workaround for this or anything I can do?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • We are talking about WooCommerce, right? Thanks.

    Hi Pierre, yes that’s correct

    Hello!

We use a WooCommerce filter to set the right term. We have no control over which term taxonomy type is selected (Brand/Type); this is something WooCommerce has to provide us correctly in filter woocommerce_product_categories_widget_main_term.

I suggest opening a topic on their support forums so that they can investigate whether a fix is necessary.

As for the incorrect image selected: This might be a theme/plugin conflict with social sharing, where multiple Open Graph/Twitter Card items are relayed… or your preferred images are too large/small. I cannot comment on this further without a link to the page with the issue.

    Hello,

I’m still struggling with this primary category issue, specifically:

Create a new product from scratch, assign it to one category, the radial check box for “primary category” is filled.

On the product, I have a simple widget image (via Elementor) that pulls through the product category image that is set in WooCommerce. It works.

I then edit the product, tick another product category, ensuring the first category remains checked. Go back to the product, and it now pulls in the image assigned to the second category.

So it appears the issue is related to something not being set correctly, but I don’t know how/why it’s doing this. I just need to understand where the issue lies to avoid being bounced around between TSF, WooCommerce and Elementor support.

I appreciate any further help you can give.

I should add that the taxonomy is:

    • Brand > “abc” PRIMARY CATEGORY
    • Flowering type > “xyz” SECOND CATEGORY
    • After testing some more, when I select/add another category to the product with the same parent, no issue (honours the primary category).

When I select/add another category to the product that is a different parent, no issue (honours the primary category).

But when I select/add another category to the product that is a child of a different parent, that’s when I get this issue.

I added a completely new parent and new child as a test in case WooCommerce has some kind of preference for ID, but it doesn’t make a difference, still get the issue. In fact, on a completely new parent or child, weirdly it breaks on both.

To confuse me further, “Flowering type” = “Feminised” … issue.
“Flowering type” = “Regular” …. no issue.

    Hello!

To reiterate what I posted earlier, TSF only assigns the primary category. What happens next is up to WooCommerce, whereafter Elementor (assuming ‘Elementor Pro’) is responsible for querying the right image and breadcrumbs. TSF doesn’t influence querying child/parent terms, nor should it.

I’m afraid I do have to bounce you around. Until this is sorted, I recommend not assigning primary categories to child terms. If you’re not using Elementor Pro (Elementor non-Pro seems not to pose issues), then I recommend reaching out to WooCommerce first.

What helps much more than writing out the issue is a live link to the problematic page. Web developers understand HTML better than English.
