Breaking All Embeds / Embed Cards (iframely plugin) and Youtube videos in post

  • Hey????I love this plugin – it’s the only one that seems to add my amazon affiliate tag to amazon links!

    But I seem to be having an issue with it, specifically on post pages. Now on the homepage view of [ redundant link removed ] the embeds seem to show just fine (whether its a URL embed using iframely or just a youtube video embed) but when I click on the post page to view the full post, the embeds are broken and instead replaced by a https:// text hyperlink url.

    At first I thought it was just removing the embed for amazon links but it appears to be breaking all embeds regardless (videos, urls, non amazon links)

    Is there anything I can do to resolve this?

    My site is: https://bestofdeck.com – If you visit the homepage you’ll see the embeds working just fine (whether it be a youtube video, amazon product shared or an external url blog post) it shows the card on the homepage but when you click on a post to read the full article the embeds no longer work!

    Hopefully you can help! I’ve been trying to fix this for a few weeks but I’ve given up lol.

    Edit: seems to be breaking the blocks. When I click ‘Attempt Block Recovery’ in the editor it fixes it in the editor and the block displays fine. When it click ‘Update post’ and view the post page it’s broken again!

    I can’t duplicate the problem – or understand your issue. Is the issue with the public-facing site not showing the links properly, or with editing the post (as an admin) using the block editor and the links break?

    please provide exact steps i can use to duplicate this issue. Thanks.

    Hey @rhellewellgmailcom thanks for getting back to me so quickly! I filmed a video, I sped it up considerable so it wouldn’t be too long but it should show the issue.

    The same happens with all embeds (youtube videos, images etc) on the full post page. It’s maddening, can’t seem to figure out why it works on the homepage but not on the view post page.

    Took a quick look at the video. I may have to try that on my test site.

    But thinking that it might be interesting to see the HTML code block that is generated – in the block editor screen and the ‘public’ page.

    The plugin just looks for HREF codes, and then loops through all HREF codes looking for an amazon link. If an amazon link is found, it take the query string and looks for any ‘tag’ query parameter. If one is found, it is replaced with your link code. If not found, it adds one.

    So the plugin only looks at any “<a href=’somelink’ …” . If the link is not an HREF, then it doesn’t do anything.

    That’s why a comparison of the generated code in the editor and on the ‘live’ page might be interesting.
