Breaking site with Newspaper 7 & Visual composer

Hi,

I have the same issue with a very similar setup. Using Newspaper 7 Theme with Visual Composer and Revolution Slider., GoDaddy Hosted. (www.oilwire.net). I am reverting the settings for now.

I received the same .htaccess rewrite failed.

Any advice ? I am not a pro with editing code and all, but if you can tell me steps, I might be able to fix it without breaking anything. It could be something with the theme itself – as we both seem to have different hosting accounts – so the Newspaper 7 theme seems the common factor.

Side Note: the resolution slider is tricky as it is JS heavy, and I am not able to find a better replacement.

Don’t be too concerned by the <!– WP Roids cache file served by PHP script as .htaccess rewrite failed. Contact your host for explanation –> message if it is on your home page only – some hosts do have trouble with this. My older VPS running Plesk misses the home page generated by WP Roids, but my cloud + cPanel from the same host doesn’t :/

Try an inner Page or Post and see what the comment there is

@sagbee – I see a comment in your source that your have something called “Speed booster v4.5” running – try deactivating this

Either of you – if you could inspect your webpage when running WP Roids and see if there are any errors under the “Console” tab, that would help

I had checked the homepage only.

I installed BulletProof Security to see if I can get access to .htaccess. Will try to activate WP Roids again and check home + other page.

(somehow the entire theme got corrupted last time, and I had to re-install the entire theme – dont know which plugin is causing this).

@ Phil, so first attempt,

WP Roids activated (Deactive Comet Cache, Deactivate WP Super Minify, Deleted Autoptimize)
Flush Cache, Logout of admin mode. Refresh Home Page TWICE (both on Chrome and FF).

The following lines at the end of the page (“homepage”) like yesterday – not there.

Checked the Speed Tests (on homepage)
. GT Metrix reduced from 5.05s to 3.11s
. Pingdom increased from 3.3s to 9.2s
. Google Pagespeed Insight – seems to be the same – around 79/80 on Mobile and Desktop

I opened one post from the homepage: it is showing up as FOUC on both Chrome and FF, Home page still seems to be showing OK though. (I believe there might be previous cache from Comet Cache though I cleared the browser cache already)

Activate Comet Cache – Delete all Cache (WP Roids deactivated automatically)
Cloudflare – Purge all cache
WP Roids – Activate (Logout)

Home Page is also broken now. (checking on FF)

Hi Phil,

When I was in debug mode, I tried with deactivating all plugins. But it wasn’t working. Speed booster is theme additional plugin. I will send you the theme for testing.

Are they loaded using the WP get_post_thumbnail() function?

browser caching is not working

Looks like your server is ignoring .htaccess – the cache pages aren’t getting served and the caching/compression rules are being ignored

AND / OR

The static HTML files are not getting written

Are you able to check your .htaccess has a bunch of code in it for WP Roids?
Is there a folder at wp-content/plugins/wp-roids/wp-roids-cache/posts with files in it?

If the above is all good, flush your Cloudflare cache. Or put Cloudflare in Developer Mode and re-test
