breaks self-pingbacks

self-pingbacks didn’t work til i turned off this plugin. see:
https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/self-pingbacks-not-working-1i use this plugin instead of www.ads-software.com/plugins/user-access-manager (requires managing users/groups) or www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-members (requires customization to hide teaser excerpts) and i may someday want some pages/posts to be publicly visible.
should i switch to one of those, or is there another one i should try that wouldn’t block self-pingbacks?
