“Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.”

Same problem here. Just updated from 2.7 RC1 to RC2. Got the message “WordPress upgraded successfully”, but every call for adminpanel or front end will return the same “Briefly unavailable” message.

Ah! Figured it out and immediately after that found the instructions here.

As part of the automatic upgrade WordPress places a file named .maintenance in the blog base folder (folder that contains the wp-admin folder). If that file exists, then vistors will see the message Briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute.

To stop that message from being displayed to vistors, just delete the .maintenance file. The automatic upgrade should be executed again, just in case it failed.

same problem here. Only i can’t find any .maintenance file. What’s wrong?

for 3dhippie — if you can’t find the .maintenance file, check to see whether your FTP client is set to show you hidden files.

If you are using a Web interface like CPanel’s File Manager, you may need to specify that you want to see Hidden Files (dotfiles). Here’s a picture from a CPanel interface: Picture

Just happend to me. Deleting the .maintenance file from the server where my WordPress files are stored worked for me. Thank you All.

I deleted the .maintenance file and now the site (and admin section) is totally blank.

Any pointers?

No worries – I used FTP to reinstall the whole thing I’d backed up.
