I just upgraded nine WordPress installations and everything seemed fine — until I checked the comments.

My comments have lost their line breaks, causing all of the sentences and paragraphs to run together.

If I go to edit the comment and save it, the comment will show up with all of the line breaks.

The following example is what the above looks like when it gets posted:

Everything looked fine until I upgraded. Now the comments are hard to read.

How do I fix this problem?

  • I have the same problem… And it is very very bad !!
The problem appear with 2.2, under 2.1.3 there is no problem with my comments!!

I don’t want to downgrade to 2.1.3 so someone have a solution to resolve it ?

    Thanks

    So i found the problem
the problem is the “More Smilies 2.1” plug in…
I desactivate it and my linebreaks appears normally

    Groovy!

Thanks for the information. I am not using the ‘more smilies’ plugin, I am using the LMB^Box Smileys plugin, but it does the same thing.

Once I disabled that plugin, everything seems to work fine.

I guess I should have checked the plugins first.

THanks for the info guys. After doing some upgrades on my blog when going to 2.2, I was just thinking “It’s time for me to install a Smiley plugin, which one should I use?”

Now I see I need to wait until there is a new Emoticon plugin for 2.2 ? Or an upgrade for LMB’s

I think WP-Grins is working? But I want to have more control over changing the smileys

When I click on comments, this is what I get:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: get_avatar() in /home/livethec/public_html/selfgrowthsecrets/wp-content/themes/FreshPress/comments.php on line 29

    How can I fix this?

    Thanks!

get_avatar is new to WordPress 2.5. Have you upgraded to that version yet?

And in the future, start your own thread instead of bringing back an 11 month old one.

No, I have not upgraded yet. Sorry about the old thread, but everything has changed now on the forum and I really didn’t know what to do. Sorry!
