    Hi there,

Thanks for the Plugin, it’s a great concept & tool and much appreciated.

I’m running into an issue that I see no way to resolve at this point other than simply not using our Mobile version created with your Plugin.

    The issue is this:
While on a Mobile Device (tested with Chrome on a few devices), when one clicks to ‘Share’ the URL via clicking on the top URL bar (which correctly displays the original desktop URL), the URL that is ACTUALLY used/copied to share is that of the PRIVATE mobile slug (which then generates a 404 error as per your Pinned comment).

Is there any way to make it so the URL copied for sharing is that of the original/source (desktop URL) and NOT the private Mobile slug?

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris

    hi @chrifer

thank you very much, I’m happy you like Specific Content For Mobile.

What do you mean “via clicking on the top URL bar”?

If I try to share it via the button I see below “DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO WOULD LOVE THE LIGHTBOARD? SHARE IT USING THE BUTTONS BELOW!” I see this:

    https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?kid_directed_site=0&u=https%3A%2F%2Flightboarddepot.com%2F&display=popup&ref=plugin&src=share_button

So, without -mobile, or do you mean another sharing button?

Are you logged in? If so, I suggest testing again after logging out.

In any case, I see something strange in the HTML comments when I inspect elements.

Can you please install this plugin?: https://plugins.svn.www.ads-software.com/specific-content-for-mobile/branches/scfm-debug.zip

This plugin prints the following information in the JavaScript console:

    PHP version
    ACTIVE THEME
    THEME VERSION
    SPECIFIC CONTENT FOR MOBILE VERSION
    WORDPRESS VERSION
    MULTISITE (yes/no)
    MU-PLUGINS
    DROP-IN PLUGINS
    ACTIVE PLUGINS
    SERVER SOFTWARE (e.g. Apache..)
    MAXIMUM EXECUTION TIME
    MAXIMUM INPUT VARS
    SPECIFIC CONTENT FOR MOBILE OPTIONS

You can see the information above if you know the debug key and you inspect elements (usually F12 or right-click => inspect elements) and click on “Console”.

After you activate it on the plugins backend page you will see the debug key next to the deactivation link.

If for you it’s not a problem that other people may see the information above doing as mentioned above, you can write here the debug key, in another case send it to me at [email protected]. The debug key is unique for your installation.
After the problem is solved you can deactivate the plugin scfm-debug.

I would need some of that information for the problem-solving because I see that the mobile ID is the same as the desktop ID in your case, and this is strange.

Thanks for the quick reply Jose, I’m going to be stuck in a meeting for good while momentarily and will ahve to review and decide on tossing the debug addon or not (we are expecting a fair bit of traffic shortly, so I’m hesitant to do such today/mid-day)

But I first wanted to clarify the experience as I don’t think I was clear.

I will send you an email shortly with an image/sketch of what i meant by “sharing”, for now I’ll try to explain it with words again below:

It is not the embedded Share links/buttons in the page, but actually the BROWSER share feature:
    Actions:
    1. Click the URL text (primary landing page URL, which is show correctly as “mobile-” version, but without the visible URL & slug) at the very top of the Browser (search bar)
    2. Click the “3 dots” share icon”
    3. Prompted to select a media to share upon, and the ‘mobile-‘ URL is shown and used (instead of the original (slug-less URL))
    4. Recipients click the shared URL which attempts to open the “mobile-” page directly, and of course results in 404 error as is Private

Will follow up via email shortly with a visual

Just to confirm a solution to ym issue, in case anyone is getting the same.

The issue was in fact NOT due to this Plugin, but that of my failure to see/set the ‘Canonical URL’ in my Yoast SEO Plug-in.

If you have Yoast on your website, be sure to double check that the canonical URL (set under the ‘advanced’ tab at the very bottom on the Page editor in WordPress) is set to be that of the ‘Desktop’ page (or canonical of said desktop page)

Thanks again for the help Jose, amazing support & debugging and very much appreciated!!
